Four sentences on how "Die Sterne im Sauerland" understand sustainability in the hotel

1. our corporate planning is designed for the long term.

Our families have been hosts for many generations and want to secure this tradition for our descendants. In this respect, our fundamental business planning is always geared towards the long term to ensure sustainable success. When making business decisions, we also consider the impact on the environment, the region and the immediate neighborhood.

2. we are a reliable employer for our employees and trainees.

Thanks to the long-term orientation of our companies, we offer our employees a future-proof perspective for their jobs. Thanks to the host families, they have a permanent, long-term contact person. Wages are performance-related and we ensure transparency by digitizing time recording. We treat each other with respect and value each other. Every employee and trainee has the opportunity for individual further training.

3. we stand by our region and the local / regional offerings.

Food, other goods and services are preferably purchased from suppliers in the Sauerland region. We make sure that our business partners adhere to legal requirements and respect people and the environment.

The Sauerland is our home with a wonderful landscape, special people and many traditions. These must be preserved and carefully adapted in order to continue to preserve our homeland for the people of the region and vacation guests. We are also committed to the interests of the region in the political arena as well as other institutions and associations.

4. we protect the climate and the environment through continuous process improvements.

Energy management has been further optimized through the use of heat recovery systems and modern heating systems such as combined heat and power plants. The lighting has been converted to LED technology. Where appropriate, motion detectors and timers supplement the energy-saving measures. We mainly use rainwater for watering the green areas.

Printed brochures will be further reduced. In administration, more digitalization should lead to a reduction in paper consumption, e.g. through the electronic processing of invoices.

We use environmentally friendly cleaning agents for room cleaning, which are supplied in large containers with dosing systems. The amount of laundry is reduced, for example, by changing towels according to the guest's needs.

Waste is separated as prescribed. As far as possible, we buy in large containers or ask suppliers to dispense with packaging and deliver the goods loose in e.g. transport tubs.

Sustainable materials from the region are preferred for conversions and renovations. Where possible, raw materials are recycled.

We always keep an eye on our consumption of energy and other resources/raw materials and will continuously optimize systems and processes for greater sustainability.
